Wentelteefjes met banaan (French toast with banana, Dutch style!)

Fancy a hot and filling breakfast? Then try this traditional Dutch recipe for French toast with banana, which just so happens to make a decidedly delicious dessert too!

Ingredients

6 slices of (stale) bread
3 bananas
200 ml of milk
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 egg
1 sachet of vanilla sugar
2 knobs of butter
4 tablespoons of brown sugar

Dutch recipe for French toast with banana

Preparation

First peel the bananas and cut into slices. Next pop the egg, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla sugar into a mixing bowl, and beat into a batter. Now remove the bread crusts and cut diagonally in half, until you are left with 12 triangular slices. Next, heat a knob of butter in a large frying pan, dip a few slices of bread into the egg mixture, place them into the pan, and fry on both sides until golden brown. Now heat a knob of butter in a separate frying pan, and fry the banana slices until, they too, are golden brown. Lastly, place 2 pieces of French toast on each plate, top with fried banana, sprinkle generously with brown sugar, and enjoy immediately.
