Metseltaart (Dutch no-bake layer cake)

Searching for a quick and easy cake recipe? Then try this authentic metseltaart from the Netherlands – not only does it require absolutely no baking; it’s also made from only the finest of typical Dutch ingredients!

Ingredients

150 grams of sugar
200 grams of butter
4 teaspoons of instant coffee
1 pack of Verkade San Francisco biscuits
1 cup of (cooled) coffee with milk
5 tablespoons of chocolate sprinkles or flakes

Dutch recipe for metseltaart

Preparation

First pop the butter, sugar and coffee powder into a mixing bowl and, using a spatula, mix into a creamy butter paste. Next crumble the entire packet of biscuits into a separate bowl, pour in the cooled cup of coffee and stir thoroughly. Now place a layer of crumbled biscuits onto a plate, coat with the butter paste, and then top with another layer of crumbled biscuits. Repeat this process until you have used all of the crumbled biscuits. Lastly, coat with a final layer of butter paste and top generously with your choice of chocolate sprinkles or flakes. Although you can enjoy metseltaart immediately, it’s best served chilled.
