Dutch red white and blue cake

Planning to celebrate Dutch Liberation Day with family and friends? Get your guests into commemorative mood this year with our delicious cake in the Dutch tricolour – an exceptionally patriotic cake that’s also ideal for celebrating the start of the football World Cup!

Ingredients

1 pack of Koopmans farmers cake mix
1 drop of red food colouring
1 drop of blue food colouring
200 grams of butter
1 can of whipped cream

Preparation

First preheat your oven to 160° C. Meanwhile grease three round cake tins of approx. 15 cm in diameter (if you only have one cake tin to hand, then you’ll need to bake the three cake layers separately). Next prepare the cake mix in a large mixing bowl, according to the instructions on the packaging. Now divide the cake mix between three smaller bowls, and stir the red colouring into one, and the blue into another. Pour each cake mix into a separate cake tin, place into the oven and then bake until golden brown. Next remove the cakes from your oven and allow to cool. Once cooled, top the blue cake with a layer of whipped cream and place the colourless cake on top. Again, cover with whipped cream. Lastly place the red cake on top and finish with yet more whipped cream and, sticking with the Dutch theme, a few segments of mandarin orange. Yum!
