5 thoughtful ways to spoil your mum this Mother’s Day

Some countries, such as the UK, have already celebrated Mother’s Day – however, in the Netherlands, Mother’s Day falls on 11th May this year, which means that Dutch mums at home and abroad, as well as expat mothers in Holland, can still look forward to a delightful day of pampering.

Want to discover how to give your mother, grandmother or partner a Mother’s Day to remember?

Of course, you can always surprise mum with a traditional bunch of flowers or her favourite perfume, but if you prefer to give her something truly memorable this year, something that she can treasure for a lifetime, then browse our 5 fabulous tips below:

1) Treat her to a day off

One of the best and, certainly most appreciated ways to spoil mum on Mother’s Day, is by giving her a well-earned day off. Relieve your mum of tiresome household chores, such as washing dishes, cleaning the house or doing the laundry, by temporarily taking over these tasks yourself, or better still, allow her to unwind in style this year, by hiring her very own maid, nanny or cook for the day.

2) Buy theatre tickets

Mother’s Day is a great excuse for a visit to the theatre, especially if your mum is a fan of plays, cabaret or the opera. So, treat your mum to not one, but two tickets, and accompany her to her favourite performance or show – after all what mum really enjoys most is spending quality time with you!

3) Spend the day shopping together

As most shops are open on Sundays, especially in major towns and cities, why not indulge your mum with a welcome dose of retail therapy in town or at the local shopping centre? And, don’t forget to throw in a lavish lunch or afternoon tea somewhere extra special. If nearby shops are closed, then shop online at Holland and Home instead, and together create a unique Mother’s Day hamper crammed with her best-loved Dutch products.

4) Book an appointment at the local beauty centre

Nothing is more relaxing for a busy mum than a day at her local spa, sauna or beauty centre, where she can take advantage of a stress-busting massage, luxury facial and other tantalising beauty treatments. Alternatively, bring the beauty centre to her front door, with an indulgent beauty gift set, such as the Rituals True Happiness Gift box or the Rituals Ancient Beauty Gift Box, from Holland at Home!

5) Give a large stack of Dutch magazines

If your mum loves to put her feet up with a cup of tea or coffee and the latest edition of her preferred Dutch glossy, then consider compiling a bumper pack of Dutch magazines for an unusual gift that’ll keep her entertained all Mother’s Day!
