5 Dutch desserts that are ready in a jiffy!

Fancy an indulgent dessert that invokes fond memories of the Netherlands? Then these tempting Dutch desserts will certainly hit the spot! All of our typical Dutch dessert recipes below are an absolute breeze to prepare and can also be enjoyed as a tasty snack between meals.

Typical Dutch desserts

1. Chocoladevla of vanillevla met hagelslag (chocolate custard or vanilla custard pudding with chocolate sprinkles)

Simply pour a generous serving of chocolate vla or vanilla vla into a bowl, sprinkle liberally with chocolate sprinkles and your delectable Dutch dessert is ready! If you don’t have authentic Dutch vla (Dutch custard pudding) to hand, then why not have a go at making it yourself using our simple chocolate vla recipe?

2. Yoghurt met Roosvicee (yoghurt with Roosvicee)

Give natural yoghurts a deliciously sweet and fruity twist with Roosvicee, a popular Dutch fruit syrup that’s available in a variety of yummy flavours. Just pop some yogurt into a bowl and stir in a large splash of your chosen Roosvicee! Alternatively top with a little muesli for an appetising breakfast or lovely lunchtime treat.

3. Griesmeelpudding met bessensap (semolina pudding with berry juice)

Semolina pudding served with berry juice is a favourite Dutch dessert. You can prepare yours the old-fashioned way using our traditional Dutch semolina pudding recipe, or if you’re short on time then this Dr. Oetker semolina pudding macaroon is an excellent alternative.

4. Warme custardvla met slagroom (warm custard pudding with whipped cream)

Prefer a warm dessert, especially in the colder winter months? Then you’ve got to try this mouth-watering Dutch custard pudding from Dr. Oetker that’s ready in next to no time. And, if you want to truly spoil your dinner guests, then serve your warm custard vla with a lavish topping of whipped cream.

5. Saroma kookpudding (Saroma pudding)

Saroma kookpudding has remained one of the best-loved desserts in the Netherlands since the 1950’s. Why? Because it’s both incredibly quick to prepare and unbelievably moreish! These days Saroma kookpudding is manufactured by Dr. Oetker and is available in a variety of delicious flavours, including vanilla, caramel, banana and rum raisin. Yum!
