Hollandse runderstooflappen (Dutch beef stew)

A hearty Dutch stew, perfect for a cold winter’s day!

Ingredients:
500 grams of beef fillet
2 medium onions
1 bay leaf
2 cloves
A dash of vinegar
200 ml of water
A pinch of salt or 1 beef stock cube
Freshly ground black pepper

Preparation:
Peel the onions and cut into thin rings. Then sprinkle some salt and freshly ground black pepper onto the beefsteaks and leave to infuse. Meanwhile, melt 50 g of butter or margarine in a deep pan and fry the onions until translucent. Place the beefsteaks into the pan and fry until brown on both sides. Next add the bay leaf, cloves, vinegar and water. As soon as the liquid boils, reduce the heat to a low flame and allow the beef to simmer for around 1.5 to 2 hours or until it begins to fall apart. Delicious served with freshly boiled potatoes, or rice and green beans.
