Dutch Olympians are making an admirable contribution to the 2012 London Olympics – an impressive three gold, one silver and four bronze has put the Netherlands at an amazing 12th position in the medals table. That’s way ahead of some of their Euro zone partners, including Belgium (currently in 43rd position) and Spain (in 39th position).
This weekend saw plenty more medals for Holland, with swimming in particular taking centre stage. Ranomi Kromowidjojo won her second gold of the games in the 50 metres freestyle swimming, whilst team mate Marleen Veldhuis, who is due to retire after the competition, took bronze in what was to be her last ever Olympic race. Having already won gold in the 100 metres freestyle, Ranomi is one of only three swimmers in Olympic history to have achieved a gold in both events.
