Hutspot (Hodgepodge)

Good, honest, simple yet tasty Dutch food

Ingredients:

1.5 kg of potatoes
1.5 kg of winter carrots
5 large onions
500 g of lean beefsteak
40 g of butter

Preparation:

Place the beefsteak in a pot with ¾ litre of water and some salt, cover and leave to boil for 1 hour. Meanwhile, peel the potatoes and cut into chunks, peel and cut the carrots into small pieces and peel and cut the onions into rings. After the beefsteak has boiled for an hour, add the vegetables together with a knob of butter and cook for a further 30 minutes or until almost dry. When cooking you may add a little water to prevent burning, but take care that the meat and vegetables are not too moist. Next, remove the beefsteak from the stew and cut into pieces. Finally, stir the vegetables and mix well together with the beef pieces before serving.
